The Aston Villa 26/27 training shirt goes for a grey base with a dot gradient that gathers on the lower chest and the sides, a graphic device that adds depth without overloading the design. Claret appears on the side panels, the shoulders and the right sleeve, while the round collar in dark greyish tone is joined by a white stripe over the shoulder. The crest, with the rampant lion and the date 1874, is embroidered in gold on the chest.

The Villans are one of the founding clubs of English football, based in Birmingham and at home at Villa Park. Their traditional combination of claret and sky blue, their 1982 European Cup and their league and FA Cup titles are part of the memory of British football, as is the Midlands derby.

How to measure

The most reliable way is to measure a shirt you already own that fits you well. Lay it flat without stretching it:

• Chest: measure from armpit to armpit and multiply by two. Compare the result with the “Chest” column.
• Length: measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, down to the hem.
• Kids: go by height; age is only a guide.
• Trainers: stand with your heel against a wall on a sheet of paper, mark the tip of your longest toe and measure the distance in centimetres.
